Who do you think you are? I have been asked and have asked that question many times, in many different circumstances, with many different attitudes attached if you know what I mean. My husband has asked me that question specially when I'm feeling and acting like I'm better than him, but then again those of you married women understand that sometimes we have to let them know...:) :)
But on a serious note, who do you really think you are? Is who you are defined by what you have? Is it defined by what neighborhood you live in? Or is it defined by what you do for a living? See, we have the tendency to forget that we really are who we THINK we are. Your mind will complete the picture you tell it to paint of yourself. If you see yourself as unqualified, insignificant, unattractive, inferior or inadequate, you will probably act in accordance with your thoughts. Our self-image, what we think of ourselves, is like the cruise control on a car. Once you set it to a speed, the car may speed up or slow down depending on the road, but the cruise control will always bring the car back to the set speed. Same with us, when we exceed our expectations or go too far, our self-image (what we think of ourselves) pulls us back in line.
We all have an image of ourselves. The question is, does your image of who you are line up correctly with who GOD says you are? Keep in mind that I call it God but you may call it a "Higher Power" or any other way just don't mind the fact that I prefer to call it GOD ;). As I was saying before I felt the need to explain, God knows we are not perfect, that we all have faults and weaknesses; that we make mistakes. The good news is, He loves us anyway. You and I were created as unique individuals, therefore each of us is a special masterpiece. We MUST learn to love ourselves, faults and all, no because we want to excuse our shortcomings but because that is how God loves us.
So now you may ask, how can you change the image you have of yourself? well, start by agreeing with God. He thinks of you as a strong and courageous, as a man and woman of honor.
Are you making excuses as to why you can't take a new position at work or help a friend in need? You may be letting your feelings of inadequacy keep you from believing that you are capable of greater things, of making a difference. Don't focus on your weaknesses; focus on GOD.
With all that said I only have one question for you; Who do you think you are?

Spot on! I was teaching my six year old daughter this very principle that took me 40 years in life’s desert to master. I will not allow her to go through life without fully absorbing this early on!
